Company Description

Amplifon SpA is an Italian company that deals with design, application and marketing of hearing aids. The group's business is mainly focused on the sale of hearing aids and related services. These include the application and personalization of appliances, the sale of accessory products such as batteries, consumables and spare parts. Thanks to its equipment, it makes it possible to rediscover all the emotions of sounds. In particular, it markets a generation of invisible hearing amplifiers, small electronic instruments that receive, process and amplify sounds before transmitting them to the ear using advanced technology. The company operates through a network of approximately 11.000 points of sale in 28 countries and 5 continents. The distribution of its products is carried out all over the world through different franchises and shops including those in Holland, France, Canada, Great Britain, Switzerland, Spain, United States, Egypt, Australia, New Zealand, Germany and India. Amplifon has different brands well known such as Sonus, Miracle, Ear, Beter Horen and Dialogue.

Amplifon SpA is an Italian company founded in Milan in 1950 by Algernon Charles Holland, a former English officer, who at the end of the Second World War decided to start a business specializing in the supply of hearing aids for the numerous hearing problems caused by the conflict. Amplifon over the years develops on the Italian market through outlets nationwide to become the industry leader in the distribution, sale and fitting of hearing aids. In 1971 the Amplifon Research and Studies Center (CRS), an independent body aimed at disseminating knowledge in the audiological and otological fields.

Over the years it has specialized more on personalized customer service, thanks also to technological progress by introducing the first fully digital hearing aids in Italy in 1996. In this period the company achieved a market share in Italy of over 40%.

He broadened his horizons with the establishment in 1992 of a company in Spain and later in Portugal. Through various acquisitions, Amplifon enters the market of Switzerland, Austria, France, the Netherlands and the United States.

Amplifon SpA was listed on the stock exchange on June 27, 2001.

In 2001 it also happens an agreement with Bardissi Medical for the Middle Eastern market. In 2002 he acquired in the USA Sonus Corporation and in 2003 the company National Hearing Centers, a company with outlets mainly located in large shopping centres. Over the years, other acquisitions took place in Europe and he bought 100% of the shares of National Hearing Care (NHC), in Australia, New Zealand and India. In 2012 it also entered the Turkish market through the acquisition of 51% of the company Maxton, and in Poland with the constitution of Amplifon Poland. In 2014 he arrived in Brazil through the acquisition of 51% of the company Direction of Ouvir. In 2016, it invested 80 million to acquire 170 stores, especially in Canada and Germany. In 2017, it invested another 110 million, taking over 300 stores including two chains in France and Portugal. In July 2018 he made the largest acquisition of the group; thanks to a loan from Unicredit, it takes over the Catalan company for the sum of 528 million euros gaes which had 600 points of sale in Spain, Portugal and Latin America.

In recent years, especially since 2015, the value of the stock on the stock market has more than tripled. The turnover in 2018 was 1,37 billion euros with a profit of 113,4 million.

Amplifon's shares are growing steadily. After the crash during the pandemic, stocks are back on track. They recorded their highest price ever on 8 February 2021, reaching €37 per share.
