Company Description

Airbus is a European multinational aircraft manufacturer. The company is a company incorporated under European law. Since mid-2019, it has become the world's leading civil aircraft manufacturer by number of deliveries, overtaking its American rival Boeing.

The head office is in Blagnac, near Toulouse, France. The production and design plants are mainly in Europe (France, Germany, Spain, United Kingdom) but it also has offices abroad. There are 11 production sites, 12 design offices and engineering centers and 7 final assembly zones.

Since 10 July 2000, Airbus shares have been listed on the Paris Stock Exchange, To Frankfurt Stock Exchange and on Spanish stock exchanges in Madrid, Bilbao, Barcelona and Valencia.

In June 2021, the shares of Airbus 74,1% are free float while the remaining 25,9% is owned by one “Contractual partnership”. This partnership is formed by SOGEPA (10,9% owned by the French government) GZBV (10,9% controlled by the German government) and by SEPI (4,1% Spanish state holding).

The shares are currently trading at 114,66 euros. The all-time high of 138,22 euros was reached in January 2020 before the pandemic crisis that plunged the stock below 60 euros.

In April 2020, Airbus announced it had cut aircraft production by a third due to the COVID-19 outbreak. The losses to 2020 caused by Covid were limited to 1,1 billion euros. Compared to 70,5 billion in the previous year, revenues were 49,9 billion.

Economic and financial analysis of the company

Airbus was founded on May 29, 1969 as a consortium of French and German companies under the name of Airbus Industry. Spanish and English consortia will also join later. This European consortium was born with the aim of being able to compete with the American giants Boeing, McDonnell Douglas e Lockheed Aircraft Corporation.

For years, the European Union has granted advantageous conditions, in the form of incentives and tax breaks, in order to allow Airbus to excel in the sector.

Until 2006, the shareholders were EADS (80%) and BAE Systems (20%). In October 2006, BAE Systems sold its 20% stake to EADS for €2,75 billion.
