The Spanish state attorney's office has requested that Leo Messi be sentenced to 22 and a half months in prison for three crimes against the tax authorities committed between 2007 and 2009. He claims that El Pais, specifying that the decision is made by another body of Spanish justice other than the prosecutor's office, which in the days had "cleared" the attacker of the accusations because he was "not aware of the facts" which led to an evasion of 4,1 million EUR. Facts of which, according to the prosecution, the father of the player, Jorge Messi, is responsible.
The lawyer explains through a note - to which she had access El Pais – that Messi is indeed "profane" on tax issues, but at the same time "it cannot be ignored" that a large part of the earnings due to the exploitation of his image came through companies that operated in tax havens, in Uruguay and Belize. The judge following the case opened a file after receiving the reporting by the tax agency.
