Cars: Volkswagen surpasses GM to become the second largest manufacturer in the world by sales

Toyota remains the undisputed leader, with 9,98 million vehicles sold - Volkswagen takes second place, with 9,72 million, and displaces General Motors, stopped at 9,71 million - The gap with the Japanese is narrowing, but Toyota aims to amaze everyone and become the first group this year to exceed 10 million cars sold

First place is undisputed, but there is movement on the lower rungs of the podium. In the world ranking of car manufacturers, the Volkswagen group undermines General Motors and is now behind Toyota. The German brand said it sold 9,73 million vehicles last year (including trucks from subsidiaries Mane and Scania), compared to Toyota's 9,98 million and GM's 9,71 million. Analysts generally believe that VW will be able to achieve the sales target of 10 million before 2018, the year set by the group.

Toyota shows itself ambitious and, can be read on the CNN website, announces that this year it will be the first manufacturer to sell over 10 million cars, after having scored a +2% in 2013 compared to 2012. But the gap with Volkswagen and GM is narrowing: General Motors recorded a +4% , while the Germans jumped 5%.
