The authority has opened a formal investigation against Daimler and Volkswagen for a possible infringement of the market communication rules, in connection with suspicions of a cartel agreement. Bafin 'is trying to find out from Volkswagen and Daimler whether their obligation to inform the market following their alleged self-report' for having participated in the cartel agreement has been complied with, a spokesman for the German Stock Exchange gendarme indicated. confirming what the 'Handelsblatt' reported.

Bafin's intervention comes after the EU Commission launched its investigation following recent information from the German press according to which the five German car groups - VW, Audi and Porsche of the Volskwagen group and also BMW and Daimler - formed a cartel which concerns various aspects of the sector, in particular the techniques for filtering the polluting emissions of diesel cars. It is a matter of determining the legality or otherwise of such talks. On the Frankfurt Stock Exchange, in the afternoon, VW dropped 1% and Daimler dropped 0,59%, while the Dax 30 index lost 0,42%.
