Toyota maintained its lead in global sales, beating rivals Volkswagen and General Motors once again in the first nine months of 2014. All thanks to record sales of 7,615 million vehicles, an increase of 3%. compared to a year ago.

Volkswagen sales totaled 7,4 million vehicles in the January-September period, while GM sales totaled 7.372 million.

This is good news for the Japanese car manufacturer which in recent weeks has had to recall some models from the global market due to a defect in the airbag supplied by the Japanese Takata. Toyota was already in first place in the first six months of the year with nearly 5,1 million vehicles sold. It also finished first last year with record sales of 9,98 million cars. The forecast for this year is 10,2 million, which would be an all-time record in the automotive industry.

Toyota, which produces the Camry sedan, the Prius hybrid, and the Lexus luxury models, is doing very well despite the difficulties encountered in the Japanese domestic market, where a VAT increase has depressed consumption and especially car purchases.
