Cars: Suzuki and Mitsubishi in the storm

There is no peace for the international automotive sector. After the Dieselgate scandal involving Volkswagen, two other major global manufacturers are facing a scandal relating to irregular tests carried out on cars: Mitsubishi and Suzuki.

A story that has already caused the first "victim": Tetsuro Aikawa, president of Mitsubishi Motors today announced his resignation together with executive vice president Ryugo Nakao due to the "problems created for customers and shareholders", reads the company's note . Both will leave their posts on June 24th.

As far as Suzuki Motors is concerned, on the other hand, it was above all the stock that paid the price up to now, which has lost 29% on the stock market since the beginning of the year. In the last session alone, the shares of the Japanese giant lost 9,4%. A red that prompted the 86-year-old president Osamu Suzuki, 86, to go to the Ministry of Transport for a press conference during which he admitted to having used different methods for both emissions and consumption tests from those established by law out of 16 models sold in the country. A discrepancy which however, underlines the car manufacturer, would not be linked to any 'malicious' attitude. The company explained that “no wrongdoing such as manipulation of fuel efficiency data was found. Some discrepancies have been found in the automobile emission and fuel efficiency tests between the government-mandated test method and the one Suzuki has carried out.”

According to the latest news, the vehicles involved should be 2,1 million, produced starting from the year 2010. No impact on cars sold abroad.

A scandal that follows shortly that concerning Mitsubishi which, according to the accusations, manipulated the tests starting from the distant 1991. It should be emphasized that the Japanese company has reached an agreement with Nissan which provides for the sale of 36% of the capital. However, the latter has the possibility of turning around in the event that the story should further escalate.
