Cars: sales ok (+12,8%), good for FCA

In the first half of the year, on a market up by 8,91% to almost 1,14 million (1.136.331), the FCA group posted around +9,8% – together, the Fiat Panda and 500 have a share in segment A of the 57,6%

In Italy, new car registrations increased in June by 12,88% compared to the same month in 2016, reaching 187.642 units. After so many above-average results, this time the FCA group does slightly worse than the market, recording growth of 12,6% to 53.600. This is what emerges from the motorization data released by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport.

In the first half, on a market up by 8,91% to almost 1,14 million (1.136.331), the FCA group recorded around +9,8%. The DMV specifies that 375.649 transfers of ownership of used cars were recorded in June, with an annual variation of -1,02%. The global volume of sales in June, equal to 563.291, therefore involved 33,31% of new cars and 66,69% of used cars. In addition, 2.389.777 transfers of ownership of used cars were recorded in the cumulative (-2,71%).

Considering the FCA group, the market share in June was 28,6%, almost in line with 2016, while in the aggregate it rises by 0,2 percentage points to 29,3%. In detail, last month, Alfa Romeo scored +23,1%, Jeep +18,7% and Fiat +15,8%, while Lancia accused -17,9%. In the first half the Fiat brand recorded +10,55%, Alfa Romeo +32,5% and Jeep +7,91%. Lance down (-5,57%).

Furthermore, considering the various brands of the group, it appears that for Fiat the Panda is the absolute best-selling car of the month in Italy with almost 12 registrations. Together with the 500 (third for absolute sales) it holds a 57,6% share in segment A. Tipo is second overall with over 7 thousand registrations and first in segment C with a share of 24,6%, while Punto is fourth in the top ten (just under 5 thousand registrations) and first in segment B with a share of 10,3 %. Also present among the ten cars sold in the month were the 500L (almost 4.900 registrations, first in its segment with 56,2%) and the 500X with just under 4.800 for a share in its segment, in which it is the best-selling, by almost 20%.

Still in June, Lancia recorded 4.600 registrations (2,5% share) and over 37 cumulatively for a 3,3% share. Ypsilon remains among the top ten overall and is the third best-selling car in segment B with a share of 9,5%. For Alfa Romeo there are 4.700 units (+23,1%) with a share of 2,5% (+0,2 percentage points).

In the first half of the year, Alfa Romeo registrations increased by 32,5% to 25.200 for a share of 2,2% (+0,4 percentage points) thanks to the strong growth of new models. Giulia is confirmed as the best-selling car in segment D with 1.500 registrations and a share of 21,8% and Stelvio is among the best-sellers in its segment with a share of 10,2%. The Giulietta, with almost 2 units registered, is among the best-selling cars in its segment with a share of 6,8%.

As for Jeep, in June it marks an increase of 18,7% to over 4 thousand units for a share of 2,1%. Over the year, +7,9% to almost 24 Jeeps and a share of 2,1%. Renegade once again leads the performance: it is the second best-selling car in the segment (behind only the 500X) with 3.600 units and a share close to 15%.

Always considering the FCA group, Maserati recorded sales that almost doubled in the month to 233 units (from 122 a year earlier) and up more than 110% in the cumulative to 1.661. Among foreign manufacturers, leader in June of the Italian car market Renault with 14.350 units (+13%) and a 7,65% share, ahead of Volkswagen with 13.198 (+4,71%) and a share dropped to 7,03 .7,58% (XNUMX% a year earlier).

In third place is Ford with 12.255 (+15,8%) and a share that has risen from 6,26% to 6,53%. Last month, most of the foreign groups recorded progress. Among the generalists Toyota scored +15,9%, Peugeot +19% and Citroen +48,2%, in the premium segment BMW -8,9%, Audi +26,5% and Mercedes +5,97%.

In the aggregate, the leader of foreign manufacturers in Italy was Volkswagen with 82.601 (+5,6% sales) and a share that fell to 7,27% (from 7,50%), ahead of Ford with 79.728 (+9,94% ) and a share that rose to over 7% (from 6,95%) and Renault with 77.988 (+10,78%) for a share that rose from 6,75% to 6,86%. In the premium segment, BMW recorded sales up by 4,9%, Audi by almost 4% and Mercedes by 1,45%.
