Auto Italia: registrations ok, Jeep boom (+187%)

In August the number of registered cars in Italy it grew by 9,46% compared to the same month last year, to 91.551 units. This was communicated by the Ministry of Transport, adding that in the period January-August 2018 the sales of new cars in our country amounted to 1.365.947 units, a practically stable figure (-0,07%) compared to the same period of 2017, when 1.366.881 units had been registered.

As for the used car ownership transfers, 260.485 were registered in August, down 4,57% year-on-year. In the first eight months of the year, however, the account reaches 2.952.574, with a variation of -2,93% compared to January-August 2017.

Going to look at the top ten brands, Fiat saw registrations drop by 15,24%, with market share falling to 15,46% from 19,96%. In second place there is Renault, which recorded an increase in sales of 74,07% and the market share rose to 10,47% from 6,58%, thanks above all to the performance of Clio. On the lowest step of the podium there is Volkswagen, with a +10,35% of registrations and share rising to 7,15% from 7,09%.

In fourth place there is Ford (share at 6,58% against 6,32% and registrations increased by 13,89%), followed in fifth position by the brand Jeep, which recorded a boom in registrations of 137,83%, with a market share rising from 2,85% to 6,19%.

In sixth place Peugeot (+7,76% registrations, share dropped to 5,29% from 5,38%), in seventh place Dacia (sales +80,85% and share at 4,89% from 2,96%). Eighth position for Opel (+2,93%, with a share of 4,87% against 5,17% in August 2017).

In the penultimate place in the top ten for market share in Italy there is Citroen/Ds, with registrations up 7,28% and share at 4,49%, down from 4,59%. Finally, in tenth place there is Toyota (with Lexus) which recorded a +11,28% of registrations and a share that rose to 4,46% from 4,39%.

As for individual models, in August, for the first time since September 2013, Fiat Panda it was not the best-selling car in Italy, beaten by Renault Clio. In the ranking of the 10 best-selling cars in our country, the FCA group still places six cars, including two with the Jeep brand. In particular, the third place of the Jeep Compass with 3.002 units sold in the month just ended. In fourth place Fiat 500X with 2.994 units, followed by Fiat Type (2.400) Dacia Sandero (2.199) and Jeep Renegade (2.110). They close the standings, from seventh to tenth place, Citroen C3 (2.071 units), Renault Captur (2.037) and Fiat 500L (1.996)
