Difficult summer for Fiat, which saw registrations drop by 7,6% in August. The new Italian-branded cars reached 45.585 throughout Europe, against the 49.324 registered in the same period last year. In July, the collapse was even heavier, reaching -9,9%. In this case, there were 75.365 registrations, against 83.612 in July 2010. The figures were released today by Acea, the European association of manufacturers.

The performance was also negative for the market share of Fiat Group Automobiles, which dropped to 5,8% in August (it was 6,8% in the same period last year), while the previous month it had dropped on a annually from 7,8 to 7,2%.

The performance of the Turin company contrasts with the general trend of the European car market, which has experienced a two-speed summer. Again according to Acea data, in July new car registrations fell by 2% on an annual basis, to 1.012.910, while extending the target to the first seven months of the year, a drop of 2,1% was recorded ( 8.135.064 registrations).

The countries that recorded the worst performances are Ireland (-35,4%), Portugal (-29,7%), Romania (-18,1%), Hungary (-15,5%), Greece (-13,9 .11,3%), Belgium (-10,3%) and Italy (-5,7%). France (-3,5%) and Great Britain (-XNUMX%) are also bad.

The situation in August is quite different. Last month, registrations returned to growth throughout Europe (+7,8%) reaching 787.435 units against 730.646 in the same period of 2010.
