Electric cars: from Bei 115 million to Enel for columns

The European Investment Bank is working alongside Enel in the plan to install around 14 charging stations for electric vehicles throughout Italy within the next five years. The partnership was sanctioned by an agreement between the EIB and Enel X Mobility, a subsidiary of Enel X, the Enel group unit dedicated to the development of digital products and solutions. Enel X Mobility will receive a loan of 115 million with a duration of 10 years, guaranteed by Enel Spa, of which 50 million has already been completed.

For the EIB, which will support around 50% of Enel X Mobility's total investment, the operation falls within one of its main lines of business: the financing of projects to combat climate change in the innovation and sustainable mobility sectors. Enel X is committed to giving a strong boost to the development of electric mobility in Italy with its national program which aims to equip the country with 7 charging points by 2020, up to 14.000 by the end of 2022, investing around 300 million euros.

“We are strongly committed to giving Italy a decisive contribution to the evolution of a sustainable mobility system. Our plan is ambitious and it is important to have the EIB at our side to achieve it - declared Francesco Starace, CEO of Enel - We will create a widespread and technologically advanced infrastructure, which will help increase the number of electric cars on the road in Italy and will bring benefits for the environment, the economic system, businesses and citizens, improving their daily life and travel and consumption habits”.

"With Enel - underlined Dario Scannapieco, vice-president of the EIB - we have a long tradition of activity, always with great attention to environmental issues and aimed at maximizing the final benefits for families and SMEs: after the operations for the modernization of or the 1 billion commitment for the installation of 41 million new digital meters, we are now particularly satisfied to support this project: the electric car will help improve the life of the population in terms of less air and noise pollution”.
