Castellabate and Enel X at the forefront for the development of sustainable mobility and the creation of zero-emission tourist routes in Campania. In fact, this morning the three charging infrastructures for electric vehicles installed by Enel X, the Enel Group unit dedicated to the development of innovative products and digital solutions, were inaugurated in the municipality of Cilento.

The mayor of the municipality of Castellabate was present at the ribbon cutting of the column located in Piazza Lucia, Costabile Spinelli and the Chief Executive Officer of Enel, Francesco Starace. The initiative is the result of the positive collaboration between the institution and the company, which led to the signing of a memorandum of understanding for the installation in strategic areas of the municipal territory of three new charging stations equipped with special stalls for parking cars and motorcycles. The other two columns are located in the bus maneuvering area in Borgo Castellabate and in Piazza Punta dell'Inferno.

"We thank Enel, the largest electricity company in the country, for the sensitivity shown in the attention to renewable energy issues - said the Mayor of Castellabate, Costabile Spinelli – and for the decision to involve in this ambitious project not only the big cities, but also smaller areas with a strong tourist vocation such as Castellabate, which is growing, also thanks to these initiatives, in terms of services offered to citizens and tourists. Through the installation of charging stations for electric cars in various points of our municipality, we have taken up the new challenge of sustainable mobility, going in the direction of technological development and anticipating the needs of the community which is preparing to make another great leap into the future. in terms of connection speed, thanks to the fiber optic network, and with the methane gas distribution network, under construction".

"Electric mobility is a winner not only in large urban centres, but becomes an important tool for attracting and welcoming tourists, enhancing the beauties of our territory - said the CEO of Enel, Francesco Starace – We are particularly happy to give our contribution with three innovative charging stations in Castellabate, in the heart of the Cilento National Park, declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco. The zero-emission car is the ideal way to discover the most beautiful Italian villages: a recharging infrastructural network extended to the main places of art and tourist-accommodation facilities is a decisive factor in contributing to the development of the sector, improving its quality supply with a significant reduction in noise and atmospheric pollution, and strengthening the competitiveness of our country”.

Castellabate is one of the 21 municipalities in Campania that have already signed a memorandum of understanding with Enel X for the installation of more than 140 columns. Agreements are being finalized with other municipalities in the region, to reach over 300 recharging points installed by 2018. In the province of Salerno, 6 infrastructures are already installed and available to customers.

Enel X has announced a  National plan for the construction of electric vehicle recharging infrastructures, which will see the laying of approx 7 thousand columns by 2020, to reach 14 thousand in 2022. This program provides for widespread coverage in all Italian regions and will contribute to the growth in the number of electric and hybrid vehicles on the road.

For the implementation of the national programme, Enel X is proceeding with the implementation of agreements with Municipalities, Regions, institutions and commercial operators for the installation of recharging infrastructures in public or private areas accessible to the public.
