Auto: Europe recovers in October (+4,7%), Fiat does not (-7,3%)

The only "important" market still in decline is the Italian one, which last month recorded a fall of 5,6% – In the first ten months of 2013, the decline in Fiat sales was 8%.

In October the car market in the European Union grew by 4,7%, at 1.004.935 registrations. This was communicated by Acea, the builders' association, underlining that for the first time since September 2011 the figure recorded two consecutive monthly increases (in September the increase was 5,4%), but also that the only "important" market ” still in decline is the Italian one, which recorded a fall of 5,6%. In the first ten months of the year, the European market recorded a drop in sales of 3,1%.

Also in October, the group Fiat saw sales in Europe drop by 7,3% (58.757 registrations). The market share fell to 5,8% from 6,6% in October 2012, while it rose from 5,5% last September. In the first ten months of 2013, the drop in sales was 8% (619.295 registrations), with a market share down to 6,2%, from 6,5% in the same period of 2012.

A Fiat note underlines the 55% increase in registrations in Spain (which in October recorded +34,4% thanks to incentives), where it sold 1.625 vehicles with a market share of less than 3%.

Volumes increased by 9,6% in France, which in October recorded approximately +2% of the market as a whole. The 500L is the best-selling model in its segment for the fourth consecutive month.

As for the individual brands, in Europe for the Fiat brand the drop was 3,5%, Lancia-Chrysler scored -12,2%, Alfa Romeo -34,1%. On the other hand, Jeep rose, which however represents a very modest market share of 0,2%, thanks to the Gran Cherokee (+48,5%).

At the start of the session, Fiat shares lost 0,6% in Piazza Affari.
