Authoctona: in Bolzano the showcase of native wines, heritage of biodiversity

They go on stage the 18 and 19 October in Bolzano the native Italian wines: in fact we start again with Autoctona which presents to wine lovers and professionals, Italy of wine biodiversity.

The event is proposed as with a large tasting counter, managed by AIS sommeliers from South Tyrol, with in-depth masterclasses able to provide the public with food for thought on the theme of native vines, constantly in ferment and always full of novelties. Professional experts and journalists from the world of wine will discuss, among other things, "All the shades of pink: rosé, a fashion that never sets", "The natives in sparkling wine: there is life beyond chardonnay and pinot noir", " Calabria: a heritage of native vines to discover”

Protagonists therefore the wines from the most well-known and widespread vines along the boot, standard-bearer of internationally known denominations, to those linked only to small areas, often saved from extinction thanks to the dedication and commitment of passionate vigneron dedicated to native vines will welcome

Of the over 600 varieties registered in the National Vine Catalogue, almost all of them can be considered indigenous and in many cases belonging not only to certain regions, but also to specific areas or micro-zones within which they have found the ideal conditions to give unique traits in aromas and flavors

The public will be able to walk a real "Giro d'Italia" with glass in hand, to get to know and taste wines that are not always easy to find in wine bars or restaurants, unless you go directly to the production areas.

A few examples? There cellar, ancient native red grape variety of the province of Treviso, which risked extinction with the arrival of phylloxera between the late 800s and early 900s and was recovered thanks to the work of some winemakers especially in the Colli Asolani area and Montello in particular . The Spergola, confused in the past with Sauvignon, is instead a historic white grape variety that found its home on the hills of Reggio Emilia in the XNUMXth century and which was rediscovered with excellent results especially in the sparkling version, both Charmat and Classic Method.

In Piedmont from native vines such as Nebbiolo, Barbera, Dolcetto and Grignolino, wines with an ancient history and a radiant present are born, famous not only in Italy but by now almost all over the world. However, there are also varieties linked to very small areas of this region: this is the case of Schierano Malvasia, an aromatic black Malvasia that gives rise to the homonymous wine a Castelnuovo Don Boscoor, or of Timorasso and born, autochthonous white grapes grown exclusively in the Tortona area or in Novello in the Langhe.

In Tuscany the undisputed prince is naturally Sangiovese, present in Autochtona with samples that come from many of the main denominations, but to accompany it there are many minor vines that have been, over the years, rediscovered and vinified even in purity. It is the case of Ciliegiolo and Canaiolo, but also of varieties that until a few years ago were thought to be lost, such as the Barsaglina and Black Vermentino, grown only on the coastal strip in the province of Massa Carrara in particular.

Continuing the journey and staying in Central Italy, at the Salone it will be possible to taste wines made from Bellone e Black Olive: they are two vines particularly linked to the Lazio region, the first has very ancient origins and numerous synonyms, including the curious big shit e Archpriest, while the second has often been compared to the Sloppy Campania, although the relationship is not so certain.

About Campania, in addition to Aglianico, Greco, Fiano e Falanghina, historic varieties now well known, it will also be possible to taste wines obtained from a series of lesser-known but highly valuable vines, such as the Ischia Biancolella e Outside or the rare repoli, Phenyl e Broom of the Amalfi Coast. Remaining in southern Italy, a treasure trove of countless grapes that give rise to wines of great character, there will be from Calabria Mantonico, Magliocco e Greek Black, while from Sicily, in addition to the famous Nero d'Avola, they will not fail Caricante and the two Nerello Masscalese e Nerello Cappuccino, standard bearers of a viticulture, the Etna one, which gives results of great charm at the foot of the highest active volcano in Europe.

The tasting counter, managed by the sommeliers of the Italian Sommelier Association – South Tyrol section, will be open to sector operators from 10.00 to 16.00 and to enthusiasts from 16.00 to 18.00. To access it, it is necessary to purchase the ticket exclusively online, in order to avoid gatherings at the cash desks (link to purchase the entrance ticket to the event).
