The Council of Ministers decided yesterday to postpone by three months the increase in the third rate from 21 to 22%, which will take effect on XNUMX October instead of XNUMX July.

The provision on VAT “I believe demonstrates the government's willingness to help the economy with due prudence. Because at the moment there is no need to make choices that give the impression of destroying the public finances”, commented Prime Minister Enrico Letta at the press conference.

The spokesman for the commissioner for economic affairs Olli Rehn stressed instead that the EU Commission needs to understand "how the hole in the accounts created by the postponement of VAT will be covered before commenting on the measure".

The undersecretary to the Prime Minister, Filippo Patroni Griffi, assures that the billion for the postponement of the three-month VAT increase “is covered with certain resources. There are no increases of a tax nature, there are no increases in taxation ".
