Actuaries: the profession that knows no crisis or unemployment

There is, even in Italy, a profession that knows no crisis or unemployment. It's about the actuaries, which they celebrated today with a conference in Rome ("1942-2012: past, present and future of the actuary profession in Italy") the seventieth birthday of the profession.

Leading exponents of the insurance and social security world attended the conference together with Giampaolo Crenca, President of the National Council of Actuaries, and Carla Angela, President of the National Order of Actuaries.

Actuaries are specialized in statistics, mathematics and probability calculation, evaluate insurance and financial risks, quantify uncertain and risky phenomena and estimate the future trend of demographic, environmental and economic variables. In Italy there are only 900 (80 in the world, 19 in Europe), despite being highly sought-after professionals.

In fact, in the annual rankings, actuaries are always placed at the top levels in terms of quality of work and salaries. In Italy their unemployment rate is 0% and, indeed, the demand for actuaries far exceeds the supply. It happens more and more often that young people who are heading towards the profession receive job offers even before their studies, studies that require, for enrollment in the Register, a degree in Finance or in Actuarial and Financial Statistical Sciences or in Statistical Sciences , and then passing a state exam.

"We have launched with the National Order - explains the President of the National Council of Actuaries, Giampaolo Crenca - on the one hand a communication activity that raises awareness of the work of actuaries in the field of pensions, insurance and finance, on the other a promotional campaign in high schools to arouse young people's interest in a training course that offers excellent job opportunities”, a real happy island in the rough seas of the Italian world of work, and whose employment prospects, already radiant, seem destined to grow further.
