Atlantia seeks an agreement with the government on Aspi and the share goes up

An olive branch that gives birth to new hopes on a possible agreement between the Government and Aspi. This is enough to run the Atlantia title on the Ftse Mib. At the start of the session, the shares gained 5,45% of their value, before falling back at 10.50 at +3,5% settling at 14,8 euros. The purchases were driven by the meetings of the boards of directors of the parent company Atlantia and the subsidiary Aspi. Both boards have in fact resolved to send a letter to the Ministry of Transport led by Paola De Micheli to confirm "the company's willingness to continue the discussions – even after 30 June 2020 for the definition of the dispute procedure initiated by the grantor on August 16, 2018".

According to forecasts Aspi will continue to “execute its obligations as a concessionaire” even after 30 June, the deadline beyond which the concession will be terminated after the company's negative opinion regarding the changes to the agreement unilaterally introduced with the Milleproroghe decree. The resolutions instead confirm the company's intention to continue the negotiations with the Government even beyond the deadline to try to resolve a battle that has been going on for almost two years now. A sign of relaxation later the completely different letter sent to Brussels in which Atlantia accused the Executive of wanting to force the company to sell off the majority stake in Aspi, causing considerable damage to Edizione and the shareholders of Atlantia itself.

The decision to seek a new compromise, Aspi explains, derives from the fact that the company has "already challenged the regulatory provisions of the Milleproroghe Decree in the courts". Roberto Tomasi, number one of Aspi, in an interview given to Messenger has reaffirmed that an agreement between the parties is in the interest not only of society, but also of the country. Speaking to Radio24, the manager added: “In the role I hold, I can only try to be optimistic. We have been in dialogue with the government since July 2019 to seek a settlement of the situation" "Obviously - continued Tomasi - we have implemented all the necessary protective actions both towards Europe and the administrative courts to safeguard the interests of the agency. We are talking about 7 employees, 7 billion in investments ready to start with approved executive projects. Therefore a complex reference framework which must be considered a value for the country system”.

“The postponement of the resolution exercise is a clear signal of the will to find a negotiated solution. It will now be important to see what the government will decide and what the terms of any negotiations will be”, commented the Equita analysts. We recall that a few days ago, during the States General of Villa Pamphili, the premier Giuseppe Conte he had declared: “We are moving towards a forced solution. We have been talking about Autostrade for too long. I don't have an acceptable proposal on my table. We are moving towards a forced solution. If another proposal arrives in extremis we would be dutifully obliged to take it into consideration, but for me the case must be closed and immediately”.
