Record auction in New York for one of the masterpieces of Amedeo Modigliani, the painting "Nu Couchè", sold tonight at the stratospheric figure of over 170 million dollars.

The picture, painted by the Livorno-born painter in Paris, is part of a series of nudes all portrayed in the winter of 1917 and then exhibited in the Berthe Weil Gallery of the French capital always in the same year. An exhibition, the experts recall, which lasted only a few hours since it aroused so much curiosity and disturbance in the public that it forced the police to suspend the exhibition and close the premises.

Christie's auction tonight on painting by Modigliani "Nu Couchè" it was an absolute escalation of millionaire increases, so much so that within 9 minutes we went from the already stratospheric auction base of 100 million dollars to the final figure of 170.

The identity of the buyer is not yet known but the hypotheses lead to some Chinese tycoon. In fact, the experts had noticed enormous interest in the Chinese public on the occasion of the exhibition of the Italian artist's work in China.

Demolished the previous record on the purchase of a work by “Modì”: last year Sotheby's sold a work by Modigliani at auction for 70 million euros. In that case it was the very famous Tete sculpture, whose starting price was 30 million dollars.
