In 2022 the cultural and creative enterprises they required about 278 thousand workers, equal to 5,4% of the total labor demand of companies in the industrial and service sectors. These are the numbers contained in the volume "Cultural and creative businesses and professions, 2022” of the Excelsior information system, created by Unioncamere and Anpal e analyzed in collaboration with the Study Center of the Chambers of Commerce G. Meat cutter according to which the job demand was activated by a group of companies belonging to the four “core” compartments of the cultural and creative production system: creative industries, cultural industries, historical-artistic heritage, performing arts and entertainment.

Cultural and creative industries: here are the most requested profiles

According to the report, to the 278 requests registered in 2022, a further 20 planned entries from Made in Italy companies with cultural content and, above all, almost 362 hires linked to tourism businesses predominantly cultural. 

It is a question, the experts explain, of "a job application that has distinctive characteristics compared to other economic sectors, above all for the request for highly qualified professionals“, capable of “combining high specialized knowledge with talent and creativity”. 

Speaking in percentage terms, 40,6% of hiring concerns graduate workers, while in the economy as a whole the share is equal to 15,1%. The demand for is also particularly high extensive experience (72,6% of planned hirings against 67,0% of total industrial and service companies) and that of graduates (36,6% of hirings, against 28,7% for the entire economy).

Between the most sought-after professions from cultural and creative businesses, analysts and software designers stand out in the advertising graphic sector with 20.920 hires, followed by expert technicians in audio, video and gaming applications, again in the advertising graphic sector (19.040 hires). Going forward in the "ranking" we find: directors, artistic directors, actors, screenwriters and set designers (12.020 requests), operators of equipment for shooting and audio-video production (9.850) and radio, television, film and theater production technicians (6.290) . And again: industrial and management engineers for the creative and audio-visual sector (4.590 hires), reception and information workers in the historical-museum sector (4.550), as well as printers (4.050), civil engineers and similar professions (3.780) and web technicians for the audio-visual and graphic-advertising sectors (3.580).

Assumptions: the mismatch is also high for cultural-creative enterprises

Despite the more than positive numbers recorded last year, the difficulty of finding the required figures was equally high for companies in the sector. According to the report, in fact, in 2022 the so-called mismatch stood at 39,1%, with an increase of 8,4% compared to 2021. The increase was even higher (+10,8% and +9,8%) for the recruitment of Made in Italy companies with a cultural content, with a mismatch that exceeds 50% of personnel searches, and of tourism with a predominantly cultural vocation, almost 38%.

The four cities where people hire the most

At the territorial level, they are the provinces of Roma with about 63 thousand contracts, Milano with over 58 thousand contracts, Torino with over 16 contracts and Naples with around 13 contracts to plan the highest revenues among cultural and creative enterprises. 

Also with regard to tourism with a cultural vocation, the highest hiring flows are in Rome with around 40 wanted workers and in Milan with over 33 workers. The provinces of Naples and Venice follow with over 27 and around 25 new hires, respectively.
