Le Italian companies near 285 thousand workers for the month of August and about 1,3 million for the August-October quarter. This is what emerges from the Excelsior information system created by Unioncamere and Anpal, according to which the data is up on a year ago: +27 planned hirings in the month (+10,8%) and +70 in the quarter (+5,7% ). The comparison with July shows a decrease in the demand for labor due to seasonality (-221 thousand entries). In any case, the companies' forecasts appear to be conditioned by the uncertainties linked to various factors: the war in Ukraine, theinflation and the credit crunch initiated by the ECB.

Difficulties in finding personnel are increasing

Going back to August, the analysis shows that "the difficulty in finding" personnel is still growing, "which concerns 41,6% of planned recruitments, up by almost 9 percentage points compared to August 2021, when the difference between demand and job offer concerned 32,7% of the profiles sought".

The companies explained that for 26,8% of the professional figures sought, no personnel can be found due to the "lack of candidates” (+8,2% year on year). In second place is the "inadequate preparation of candidates”, given as a reason for 10,9% of the profiles.

The companies most in difficulty on this front are the metallurgical and metal products industries, with 55,6% of the professional profiles sought difficult to find. Industries follow of wood and furniture (53,7%), companies of construction (52,7%), the companies of computer and telecommunications services (48,9%) and finally the industries mechanical and electronic (47,9%).

The hardest figures to find

In general, the figures that are more difficult to find are the following:

  • artisans and specialized workers involved in finishing the buildings (71,7% are difficult to find);
  • aesthetic care operators (71,1%);
  • blacksmiths and tool makers (65,1%);
  • craft mechanics, fitters, repairers and maintenance workers (64,8%);
  • smelters, welders, tinsmiths, coppersmiths, metal carpentry fitters (60,5%).

Among the most qualified jobs, however, the ranking is this:

  • IT, telematics and telecommunications technicians (57,5%);
  • technicians for the management of the production processes of goods and services (57,1%);
  • health technicians (55,1%);
  • engineering technicians (54,9%).

In absolute terms, we also note the difficulty in finding over 22 workers in the activities of Catering, 9 thousand among unqualified personnel in the cleaning services, 8 thousand vehicle drivers motorized, 6 thousand sales people and 5 thousand skilled craftsmen and construction workers and in the maintenance of building structures.

Planned recruitment in various sectors

Industry

As regards individual sectors, in August industry is looking for a total of 81 professional profiles (+11,3% year-on-year), of which 55 to be employed in manufacturing (+3,4%) and 26 in construction (+32,9 %). In detail, the greatest job opportunities are offered by agri-food companies (13 hires expected; +16,7%) and by mechatronics companies (also in this case 13 hires, +6,4%). This is followed by metallurgical and metal product companies (10 hires, -20,3%) and chemical-pharmaceutical, plastic and rubber companies (5 hires, +33,3%).

Services

In services, on the other hand, 204 thousand admissions are scheduled for August, up 10,6% on the year. In the lead is the accommodation, catering and tourist services sector, which expresses the highest demand with around 59 planned hirings, although down on a year ago (-6,2%). Followed by commerce (37 entries, +19,5%), personal services (36, +17,0%) and operational support services for businesses and individuals (27, +21,6%).

Boom of fixed-term contracts

Fixed-term contracts are confirmed as the most popular form of contract, with 156 units, equal to 54,9% of the total. This is followed by open-ended contracts (45 thousand), supply contracts (38 thousand), other non-employee contracts (16 thousand), apprenticeship contracts and other employee contracts (both with 13 thousand) and collaboration contracts (3 thousand) .

The ranking of the Regions

At the territorial level, the regions that plan higher revenues in August are Lombardia (54 thousand units), Veneto (29 miles), Emilia Romagna (27 miles), Lazio (26 thousand) and Campania (22 thousand). Among the regions with the greatest difficulty in finding the profiles sought are the Trentino Alto Adige with 52,5%, the Veneto with 49,5% and the Friuli-Venezia Giulia with 48,9%.
