Assonime promotes the Government, but "a country project is needed"

Assonime promotes the measures adopted by the Government and the European Union to respond to the economic crisis caused by the coronavirus emergency, but asks the institutions for an extra effort, that of develop a "country project" capable of stimulating recovery and investments and to restart businesses in the throes of an unprecedented post-war recession.

The board of directors of the association led by Innocenzo Cipolletta, which met on 14 May by video conference, examined the Italian and international economic situation and "while appreciating the enormous effort underway to restore the incomes of families and businesses”, reads the note from Assonime, “he underlined the importance of the Government developing a country plan for recovery, which is necessary to give certainty to businesses and stimulate investments”.

The association also highlighted the importance of two other factors: bureaucratic simplification and lighteningessential conditions for restarting growth.

As regards the individual measures, the Mes, the Sure fund, the recovery Fund on which the European Union is working, the ECB's securities purchase programmes, the Cura Italia decree and the relaunch decree of the Italian Government are, according to Assonime, measures that “allow significant resources to be mobilised, and they are all useful tools to overcome the current economic crisis”. However, these tools must be accompanied by a simplification of procedures able to “make resources flow rapidly to companies”.

After the meeting, the Board of Assonime met the European Commissioner for the Economy via videoconference Paolo Gentiloni, who presented an assessment of the results of the European Council and of the economic initiatives launched by the European Union to tackle the health crisis. “The Governing Council – Assonime informs us – expressed its appreciation for the role played by the European Commission in mobilizing huge and rapidly usable resources in favor of Italy”.
