Assonime, alarm: "The maneuver could cause a recession"

The Assonime Board, chaired by Innocenzo Cipolletta, met this morning in Rome. At the beginning, he expressed strong concern about the risk that the economic maneuver presented by the Government, with the stated intention of supporting higher growth, could instead generate a real recession, create tensions in the Eurozone and negatively affect the reputation of our country , due to inability to keep the commitments made at international level. Since the budget law has not yet passed the scrutiny of Parliament, there is time to amend and re-propose it in order to avoid a clash with the European Commission. The reformulation of the law could lead to a significant drop in interest rates and would open up new spaces for a real policy to relaunch our economy.

The Junta then discussed the negative effects that the structural increase of the spread is having on the various sectors of the Italian financial market, depressing stock prices, making it more difficult and expensive to finance businesses and households and weakening the capital structure and the competitive position of banks. The imminent risk is that the increase in the spread, which directly affects the capital of banks, induces a strong restriction of credit.

The Giunta also analyzed the announced revision of the concession system, underlining the scope for improvement, but at the same time recalling the need to respect contractual commitments.

The report of the working group on "Infrastructure and investment policy: how to improve the Italian context", coordinated by Gaetano Maccaferri, was presented to the Giunta, which contains a series of proposals aimed at removing the institutional blocks that hold back the development of the sector . The Report will be published and sent to the Government in the coming days.

Finally, the following were co-opted from among the Giunta members: Giuseppe Cornetto Bourlot, President Lunedes; Gianluca Garbi, Chief Executive Officer of Banca Sistema; Rinaldo Ocleppo, President Buffetti; Fabrizio Palermo, Chief Executive Officer of Cassa Depositi e Prestiti; Giuseppe Zappalà, Q8 President.
