Assonime to the Government: "Continue reforms and investments in infrastructure"

Assonime asks the Gentiloni government to continue "to implement the reforms already decided with determination" and to work to "restart investment in infrastructure", a sector in which "significant available funds are blocked by bureaucratic obstacles". This is what the Association of Italian joint-stock companies writes in a note released after this morning's meeting of the Governing Council, which was held in the Rome headquarters in Piazza Venezia under the chairmanship of Maurizio Sella.

“The announced government interventions in support of the banking system – continues Assonime – have eased the climate of distrust in the sector”. The Board therefore underlines "the need to greatly speed up the recovery procedures for non-performing loans and to continue examining system solutions for managing the existing stock".

Regarding the political and economic situation, Assonime points out that “recent data indicate a positive acceleration of growth in Europe and in the euro area, in which Italy is participating, albeit more slowly. However, fears of political instability, even in Europe, pushed up the spread on Italian government bonds, while the upward trend in long-term rates is consolidating. Then there is the risk that the new US presidency will lead to a phase of marked turbulence in international commercial and financial relations”.

Finally, in view of the upcoming expiry of the mandate of the president Maurizio Sella, who can no longer be re-elected, the Board has appointed the Wise Men's Committee, which will be made up of the former presidents Luigi Abete, Pietro Marzotto and Vittorio Mincato and which will consult the associates for the identification of the candidates for the presidency of the Association.
