The council of Assolombarda (110 members) has officially designated the entrepreneur Gianfelice Rocca, number one at Techint, as the new president of the association. This is learned from the entrepreneurs who are trickling out of the assembly that was held yesterday afternoon in the Milan office. Some entrepreneurs have confirmed that the designation of Rocca (the only candidate remaining in the running) did not come unanimously but, in any case, he did not register any dissenting votes.
At the exit some entrepreneurs were questioned including Fedele Confalonieri who said that Rocca "is a man of value". For the vice president of Confindustria, Diana Bracco, it is "a good result of unity and cohesion". The next president of Assolombarda (who will be officially nominated by the shareholders' meeting on 10 June) according to Bracco “is a president with a great desire to do things and who is well aware of the difficulties we have to start with. He wants to act for development ”.
Rocca will assume the presidency after the association has been led for four years by Alberto Meomartini. "We must return with renewed pride to the tradition of Lombard industry", commented Rocca hotly. “Milan – continued the entrepreneur – must go back to dealing with the big European cities because only from Milan can the country restart”. According to Rocca "we still have cards to play to bring our territory and its companies back to compete in Europe and in the world".
