Insurance, Post Office wants to enter the Rc auto

The operation, still under study, could be carried out through Poste Assicura, the non-life company of the group - The effect on the market risks being disruptive

Poste Italiane evaluates the possibility of landing in the motor liability insurance sector. MF – Milano Finanza writes it today, specifying that the group has commissioned the consultancy firm McKinsey to develop a plan.

The operation could be carried out through Poste Assicura, the non-life company of the group controlled directly by Poste Vita. The latter, launched in 1999, is now the market leader thanks to the penetration capacity guaranteed by the capillarity of the post office distribution network.

Poste Italiane's debut in the motor liability sector would have a disruptive effect on a market that has been navigating complicated waters for some time now. In recent years, in fact, competition between the companies has increased, which therefore have had to lower the rates and with them the profit margins.

As far as timing is concerned, if Poste Italiane really decides to take this step, about two months will pass from sending the application to IVASS before the Authority gives the green light to the operation. It is therefore likely that the first offers will not arrive before 2018.
