Insurance: class I policies +5,4% in 2018, class III -4,5%

According to the latest IVASS statistical bulletin, traditional policies together with unit and index-linked policies represent 94,1% of the Life sector in Italy

Insurance: class I policies +5,4% in 2018, class III -4,5%

Traditional life policies (branch I) and unit and index-linked policies (branch III) are confirmed by far as the most widespread among Italian insurance policies in the Life sector. In fact, they alone represent 94,1% of the sector. The data emerges from the latest statistical bulletin by the Insurance Supervisory Institute (IVASS), which contains data updated at the end of 2018.

In particular, the analysis states that "traditional life policies grew, last year, by 5,4% compared to 2017, reaching a collection of 66,2 billion euros in premiums".

Unit and index-linked policies, on the other hand, recorded a decrease of 4,5% (29,8 billion) in 2018, after having recorded increases of over 30% in 2017 (31,2 billion) and over 40% between 2014 and 2015.

With reference to the technical accounts for 2018, net of reinsurance, traditional life policies achieved a profit of €108m, with an incidence of 0,2% on gross premiums written, a marked reduction compared to the previous year ( 3,8%).
