Ivass organized a meeting in Genoa between ANIA, the trade association of insurance companies, and Ligurian representatives of consumer associations in order to discuss the difficulties and consequent insurance needs of citizens affected by the collapse of the Morandi bridge in Genoa.

During the meeting it was agreed that the measures will affect people and businesses in this way
identified:
1. Red zone;
2. Temporarily displaced inhabitants, with certification issued by the Municipality of Genoa. The measures already shared are as follows:

  • extension of the terms for the payment of premiums or premium installments of all existing policies,
    with continuity of coverage and payment of any claim net of premiums
    suspended, in the event that the insured coincides with the person who suffered the damage (in
    summary, the policyholder suspends payment of the premium but maintains coverage);
  • in the event of suspension of the payment of the loan installments, the associated insurance policy
    on life will be extended free of charge until the new loan maturity;
  • in the event of extinguished mortgages, the premium portion on the policies will be returned to the policyholders
    associated paid and not used and calculated starting from 14 August 2018;
  • suspension of actions aimed at debt collection,
  • insurance companies, to safeguard the rights that policyholders cannot
    to exercise due to the emergency, they waive the right to enforce the prescriptions and forfeitures
    accrued after the collapse of the bridge.

ANIA and consumer representatives are committed to collaborating for the full
implementation of what has been agreed and to discuss any further measures for facilitated access a
new insurance services.
