Going around on a scooter, especially in big cities, for some is now the only way to get from one place to another. Sales soar above all in the summer months, when even the mild temperatures and the decrease in rainfall make it even more "inviting" to use this means of transport which allows you to avoid traffic and travel faster.
But besides the pros, there are also the cons. How much does it cost to insure a scooter in Italy? Facile.it, analyzing a sample of over 40 estimates collected between 1 April and 31 May 2018, calculated an average price to pay to insure a 50cc scooter.
In our country, the average amount is equal to 613 euros per year. But what is striking is not so much the figure itself, but the gap between city and city. Hiring a RC scooter in Naples costs almost three times as much as in Milan, while in Rome you pay almost 600 euros more than in L'Aquila.
"It shouldn't be surprising that for such a low engine capacity the cost of insurance is so high," he explains Diego Palano, Insurance BU Manager of Facile.it. «Often the fifty represents the first motor vehicle with which young people approach the road; therefore these are profiles which, not being able to count on a previous insurance history, are considered to be at greater risk of accidents by the companies ».
RC SCOOTER: THE RANKING OF THE REGIONS
At the top of the rankings, but this time it's not a merit, we find Campania, where to insure a 50 scooter you are faced with a premium equal to 1.260 euros, or more than double the Italian average. Silver medal for scooter riders residing in Puglia, with an average premium equal to 977 EUR. Third place for Calabria, where insuring a fifty takes on average 880 € while just down from the podium is positioned the Lazio, with an average premium equal to 825 euro.
What are the least expensive regions? Trentino Alto Adige with an average premium of 369 euros, Veneto with 410 euros and Piedmont with 427 euros.
RC SCOOTER: THE MOST EXPENSIVE CITIES
Narrowing the field of observation from the regions to the cities, the black shirt goes to Naples, where the average premium for insuring a 50 scooter reaches as much as 1.463 euros, 138% more than the Italian average. In second place is Bari, with 1.244 euros, followed by Palermo with 1.018 euros.
Scrolling through the rankings we find Rome, with an average premium of 921 euros or 82% more than that paid in Milan (505 euros). In fifth place Genoa with 778 euros.
Among the residents of the 20 regional capitals, the luckiest are those of L'Aquila, where the average premium for a moped is equal to 335 euros; followed by Trento (378 euros) and Venice (442 euros).
