After hitting a six-year high, the MSCI Asia Pacific regional index remained broadly stable – Nikkei down behind the Yen – gold up.

Asia, prices barely moved after S&P500 record

The MSCI Asia Pacific regional index, after hitting a six-year high, reached a p/e of 13,7 – still lower, however, than those of the Atlantic markets. This morning the index fluctuated around zero, consolidating. Last night Wall Street closed well, with yet another record for the S&P500, which it set at the end of 1997 after exceeding the 2000 mark during the session. The Nikkei recorded a decline of 0,5%, in tandem with the slight strengthening of the yen.

For currencies, the values ​​reached after the central bankers' pronouncements at Jackson Hole were maintained, both for the euro, which continues to be weak (1,320 against the dollar), and for the yen, which nonetheless appreciated, falling slightly below share 104 (103,9). Gold, after the sharp decline of the last few days, recovered slightly, to 1283 $/ounce. Oil remains at the low levels reached at the end of last week (93,5 $/b WTI, 102,8 Brent). Futures on London were positive (+0,5%), while those on Wall Street were stable.
