Contemporary art: Miart changes communication for the 2021 edition

The campaign takes its title from the same name collection of poems by Charles Simić – American poet, translator and academic of Serbian origin, winner of the Pulitzer Prize in 1990 – published in 1971 and which turns 50 this year. Dismantling the Silence, dismantling silence, is the answer that miart proposes to give to a art world that is going through a phase of profound transformation and that - after almost two years of absences and silences - he is now looking for new ways to communicate.

miart chooses to start from poetry, closely intertwined with the history of art, to build a journey in stages that will unfold over the months, following the time and rhythm necessary to break the silence to fill it with new content and new meaning.

Dismantling the Silence is the title of the visual campaign di miart 2021twenty-fifth edition of the modern and contemporary art fair in Milan organized by Fiera Milano and directed for the first year from Nicholas Ricciardi, which will take place in hybrid form, physical and digital, from 17 to 19 September.

The campaign designed by Studio Folder draws inspiration from the trend of expressive typography and use the font Perpetua, the same used for the first publication of Charles Simić's collection in 1971. Le letters break down into lines which reveal the message through movement, thanks to'animation andMoiré effect  an interference figure given by the overlapping of two patterns, which visually creates an illusion of movement  for analog and digital media. In this way the "breaking of silence" takes place through an action that becomes a game on different supports, which well reflect the dual nature – physical and digital – by miart 2021.

Starting from April 2021 and until the opening of miart to the public on 17 September, Dismantling the Silence will tell the many souls of miart – the dialogue between past and present, history and experimentation and the interdisciplinary approach to the coexistence of modern art, contemporary art, design and applied arts – through the flowering, after the silence, of new words.
