In the POST-WAR & CONTEMPORARY Art Evening Sale sold pieces for over 412 million dollars – Top Lot the Statue of Liberty by Andy Warhol, auctioned for more than 43 million – Also auctioned works by Frank Kline, Jeff Koons and Roy Liechtenstein.

Contemporary art: record auction at Christie's in New York

Record of awards from Christie's with the auction POST-WAR & CONTEMPORARY Art Evening Sale just finished in New York. Andy Warhol's Statue of Liberty soars for $43 million.

412.253.100 million dollars or 321.557.418 million euros for an auction that saw the sale of the works of the best post-war and contemporary artists, such as Andy Warhol, Franz Kline, Jean Michel Basquiat, Mark Rothko, Jeff Koons, and Roy Lichtenstein, and many others.

Eleven works sold for over 10 million dollars, sixteen for over 5 million and fifty-six for over 1 million, with a total of 93% sold by value and 92% sold by lot.

Said Brett Gorvy, Vice President and International Head of Post-War and Contemporary Art: “We have curated the sale by including works of the highest quality and by the most coveted artists, with the aim of offering our international collectors greater offer to their search for find the next iconic work, whether it's Pop Art, Abstract Expressionism, or contemporary art.”

The work with the lowest sold value, and that's all to say…Rober Rauchenberg (1925-2008) with Untitled sold for $290,500.
