Apple Pay, the payment system that turns the iPhone into a credit card, launched in mid-May 2018, it is now also available for customers of the Intesa Sanpaolo bank. It is a tool already used in 15 countries by tens of millions of users, with a volume of transactions that grew by 450% in the 12 months from May 2017 to May of this year and which will now also be usable by almost 12 million customers of Intesa Sanpaolo, the leading Italian bank by number of customers. At launch, Apple Pay it supported Visa and Mastercard cards only if provided by Unicredit, Carrefour Bank and Boon.

It is now available on all credit cards, On Prepaid cards and on XME Card debit cards issued by the Intesa Sanpaolo Group. «With the launch of Apple Pay – he commented Massimo Tessitore, Intesa Sanpaolo Integrated Multichannel Manager –, we also give our iOS customers the opportunity to have a cutting-edge payment tool for making purchases in stores and online, with a fast, simple and secure activation and use experience. The goal is to make concrete solutions available to our customers, capable of making everyday operations easier. The smartphone is increasingly used, even in mobile payments: offering our customers the option of paying with Apple Pay is tangible proof of the attention we constantly pay to their satisfaction, through the proposal of the best technological solutions".

The mechanism for using Apple Pay is simple: just place the Apple device on a contactless credit and debit card POS, use the fingerprint reader to be authenticated and make the payment. The service can be used with smartphones from iPhone 6 onwards, or with Apple Watch. It can also be used for payments within compatible apps and websites. Instead, it is in September landed in Italy Google Pay, linked to the Visa, Mastercard or Maestro circuit (therefore not American Express) and to the Nexi credit card system, which therefore does not currently include Unicredit and Intesa Sanpaolo customers.
