Apple launches Skype for iPad today also in Italy

Skype for iPad has finally been released for free in the App Store as a standalone application. It's not a universal update for the iPhone version, which means you'll have to download the program as a separate app for the iPad. Skype has managed to make the most of the full size of the display with larger contact images and the clearly visible list on the left, a superimposed chat during a full screen two-way video chat with the Ipad2; those who only have the iPad instead will have to be satisfied with receiving the video. The application can make video and audio calls over both Wi-Fi and 3G, very similar to the already available iPhone version. SkypeOut (to real phone numbers) and SkypeIn (online numbers) rates are Skype rates.

A list of features from the iTunes page:

  • Talk face to face or show what you are seeing with front and back camera
  • Use Skype to call anyone on Skype from your iPad and enjoy CD-quality sound.
  • Instant messages and you can add emoticons to personalize your messages.
  • Call landlines or mobiles from iPad with very little.
  • Get an online number from Skype, so people can get calls on your iPad.
  • Pay As You Go with Skype Credit – great for when you use Skype from time to time.
  • Activate monthly subscription – best if you use Skype a lot

Waiting for iPhone 5 and the public version of iCloud.
