Tim Cook predicted it two years ago and in 2014 it happened: China overtook the United States as the number one market for iPhones, becoming the main source of revenue for the group. The sensational overtaking will be certified tomorrow, after the closure of Wall Street, when the giant founded by Steve Jobs will publish the accounts for the first fiscal quarter.
According to UBS estimates, China generated 36% of iPhone shipments, compared to 24% for the US. In the same period last year the percentage values were respectively 22% and 29%.
This shift in the balance of the smartphone market - wrote the Financial Times - is linked to the expansion of Apple's presence in China, thanks to the agreement signed last year with China Mobile, the largest telephone operator in the world, and to the last October launch of the iPhone 6.
In parallel, while the iPhone took off, Samsung lost market share, while remaining the world's leading company in terms of volumes.
