Bad blow for the image of the Democratic Party in the midst of the electoral campaign for the June administrative elections in the main cities. The mayor of the Democratic Party, Simone Uggetti, was arrested today in Lodi by the Guardia di Finanza, accused of bid rigging on the occasion of a contract for the management of the municipal outdoor swimming pools of the Lombard city.
The mayor, who has been suspended from his duties, has professed his innocence but the Public Prosecutor who is handling the judicial case and who moved following the accusations of a municipal official declared that the arrest was necessary because there was the risk of tampering with evidence.
The oppositions, starting with the M5S, are unleashed and accuse the Democratic Party but the deputy secretary of the Democratic Party, Guerini, who was mayor of Lodi before Uggetti, defends the defendant, claiming to have known him as a correct and competent person, and he declares himself fully confident in the judiciary.
