Over 40 exhibitors, 12 style centres, 8 world premieres, 20 national ones. And the expected visitors are more than half a million. These are the numbers of the second edition of the Turin Auto Show, which kicked off this morning at Parco del Valentino and will continue until 12 June. The mayor of Turin, Piero Fassino, and the president of the Piedmont Region, Sergio Chiamparino, were present at the opening ceremony.
"The success of the Salone - said the creator and president of the event, Andrea Levy - is determined by a formula that provides for free admission and continuous opening hours until 24.00, which will continue in the future".
Chiamparino indicated that “the Salone is a guaranteed and controlled denomination of origin. The automotive sector underwent a profound metamorphosis at the end of the 900s and at the beginning of this century. This Salone is one of the elements that contributes to giving visibility to the sector, one of the fundamental sectors of Piedmontese and Turinese manufacturing, a showcase that highlights the sector".
According to Fassino, the event “comes from the right idea, as demonstrated by the high profile of the participating houses. The first edition was experimental. This year it is consolidating, as can be seen from the higher number of participating manufacturers and the richer programme”.
For lfredo Altavilla, manager of the Emea area of FCA, “this Show is an innovative proposal because it is open to the public, not confined to an enclosed space and allows equal treatment for all manufacturers. We are on the right track. In the past the 'de profundis' was sounded for coachbuilders. Here there are 12 of them, many of them young, with creative ideas, and this is only good for the car industry and for the Italian one. We all have standard workstations and therefore it is impossible to deceive people with pharaonic constructions which instead characterize other Salons around Europe and the world”.
