EU Antitrust prepares maxi-fine for Google for abuse of dominant position and unfair competition

The European Antitrust would be ready to close the dossier on suspected abuse of a dominant position on the web against Google. The European authorities had opened the dossier about five years ago, collecting the complaints of various companies relating to the alleged abuses by the Mountain View giant in matters of positioning and searches.

According to rumors, we are therefore approaching the opening of a spectacular proceeding against Google, which could lead to a fine against the company led by Larry Page equal to up to 10% of its annual revenue, estimated in 2014 for 6 billion dollars. A similar case was that of Microsoft, which between 2004 and 2014 was sanctioned with fines of two billion euros.

After several attempts at mediation and agreement, therefore, the parties seem very far away and the will to reach a sentence transpires from the EU commission.

The accusation hanging over the head of Google, which controls 90% of searches in Europe, is of practicing an unfair positioning of links from rival services on search pages, thus relegating other online shopping engines to the worst positions in the page.
