Antitrust: consumer reports are increasing

Thanks to the #convienesaperlo information campaign, financed by the Ministry of Economic Development, the Authority has seen a third increase in consumer reports on alleged unfair commercial practices

Antitrust: consumer reports are increasing

Consumer reports toAntitrust increased from around 13 a year in the 2016-2020 period to 16.445 registered between 24 November 2020 and 17 October 2021. This is the result of the communication campaign #convienesaperlo, financed by the Mise and implemented by the Authority with three objectives: to inform citizens of the main consumer rights protected by European and Italian legislation; highlight the role of the Italian Competition Authority and the MiSE as defenders of these rights; stimulate consumers to report alleged incorrect practices to the Antitrust.

Inaugurated in November 2020, the campaign ended on Thursday with an event at the Auditorium in Rome, during which all the numbers of the initiative were provided. Between December 2020 and October 2021, the Authority's Facebook page reached 2.385.828 people and the @convienesaperlo Instagram account 18.600 users. In total, the website www.convienesaperlo.it and the social profiles in the year of the campaign obtained 21.485.048 views and 736.452 clicks.

The campaign also involved the world of education with two national competitions: one for middle schools (“Diritti in gara”) and one for high schools (“Become an AGCM Influencer”). In the first, the students answered the questions of a quiz, while in the second they produced a video lasting up to 60 seconds on one or more consumer rights or on the role of the Antitrust in defending them and on the importance of reporting incorrect behavior . The first three winners of both competitions were awarded a cash prize (1.500, 1.000 and 500 euros), to be used to purchase materials for the class.

For small and medium-sized enterprises, however, an online training meeting was held on 12 October to take stock of the legislation on consumer rights and the activities of SMEs to protect them - particularly in web purchases - and avoid incur sanctions by the Antitrust.
