Antitrust shines a light on electricity and gas bills

In the sights of the Acea Authority, Eni, Enel and Edison – Investigations launched on various aspects: “invoicing based on presumed consumption; failure to take into account self-readings; the balancing billing of significant amounts; failure to register payments made; the non-repayment of credits accrued by consumers".

The Antitrust has launched four investigations against Acea, Edison, Enel, Enel Servizio Elettrico and Eni. 

"In the face of numerous complaints and reports, also received from various consumer associations - reads the note from the Authority -, the investigation is aimed at ascertaining any violations of the Consumer Code regarding various conduct of the operators".

In particular, in the Antitrust's sights are “invoicing based on presumed consumption; failure to take into account self-readings; the invoicing of significant amounts, also following multi-year adjustments; failure to record payments made, with consequent default of customers up to sometimes the posting; as well as the non-repayment of credits accrued by consumers".

As part of these investigations, "Antitrust officials carried out inspections in the offices of the companies involved in the proceeding in Rome, Milan and San Donato Milanese, with the help of the Special Antitrust Unit of the Guardia di Finanza", concludes the note.
