The European Union and the United Nations officially take a stand against the anti-Islam ban with which the president of the United States Donald Trump has decided to ban citizens from entering the US, including refugees from Syria, Libya, Iran, Iraq, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen.
After the rampant protests all over the world, the president of the European Commission, through his spokeswoman Margaritis Schinas, does not mince words: “This is the European Union and we do not discriminate on the basis of nationality, race or religion, not only for asylum but for any other of our policies”.
The judgment expressed on the Muslim Ban (this is how the announcement signed by the tenant of the White House was called in the USA) was very harsh, byUN which dismisses the act as "illegal and petty". The head of the commission for the protection of human rights, Zeid bin Ra'ad Zeid al-Hussein, stated that "discrimination on the basis of nationality is prohibited by human rights laws". Not only that: "the American ban is a petty thing as well as a waste of resources that could be destined for the fight against terrorism".
Prosecutors and diplomats also take sides against Trump. As reported by the ABC, the attorneys general of 16 US states, dozens of US diplomats and State Department officials are ready to sign a "memorandum of dissent" to express their disagreement with Trump's decision on citizens entering the US of the 7 Islamic majority countries. The memorandum states that the president's decision is contrary to American values and harmful to the fight against terrorism.
Meanwhile, Iran, among the states affected by the executive order signed by Trump, also decides to react. In an advance statement by the public TV Irib, the Foreign Ministry of Tehran informs that "The decision of the United States government to strike the Iranian people is an affront to all the people of this great nation", for this reason the Iranian government " to protect the sanctity and dignity of all citizens of Iran at home and abroad" and "to protect their rights", "implements the principle of reciprocity".
After the protests, demonstrations of dissent and the chaos created in numerous American airports, where thousands of people were stranded without being able to return to the United States, Donald Trump speaks again and does so through his Twitter profile: "Only 109 people on 325 were held for questioning. The many problems in airports are caused by the computers of the Delta company” writes the US president. “There is nothing pleasant about looking for terrorists before they enter our country. This is a big part of my campaign. Study the world!” the US president still writes on Twitter.
We recall that the ban on immigration is not the only measure established by the US president in the last week. Many executive orders signed in the last 7 days: from the construction of a wall on the border with Mexico to the stop to the Tpp, passing through the cutting of funds to international non-governmental organizations that provide services to women who decide to have an abortion, the stop to federal hiring, etc.
Concerns about the moves of the new US president will also add weight Wall Street going red: Dow Jones -0.90%, S&P500 1%, Nasdaq -1,33%.
