With the advent of the digital collectible space and digital sales which are becoming increasingly important to the public, Christie's seeks to responsibly manage the artistic community with a view to developing a NFT-based sustainable art environment.
Christie's latest Art + Tech Summit dedicated to NFTs sold out, with over 1.000 attending in person at Rockefeller Center in New York and virtually, tuning in from around the world. NFTs allow us to trace provenance, exhibition history and authenticity of ownership in digital art and other assets safely and permanently.
For this upcoming design NFT sale brought to you by a major auction house, Christie's has partnered with the acclaimed maverick Misha Khan (b. 1989), a multifaceted material whose irreverent approach encompasses a wide range of techniques and tools, from lo-fi collage to improvisational suits to virtual reality and robotics. Furniture Unhinged features ten NFTs, each comprising a unique 3D model rendered as an FBX file along with a corresponding single-channel MP4 “trophy” video of the object spinning on a pedestal.
Each lot represents a single frame captured from a thirteen second animation by Kahn, whose biomorphic protagonist transforms through various types of furniture and functions within a virtual and out-of-this-world architectural space.
Unlike previous NFT-based artworks, the owner of each of the lots present can 3D print all physical examples of their FBX who wishes and/or can commission a unique and authentic example that Kahn will render in thermoplastic polyester PETG, epoxy resin and paint. The ninth lot, It Must Have Been The Clams, is accompanied in the ongoing sale by a real-life example.
