Antanas Sutkus. How much is his work worth?

Antanas Sutkus. How much is his work worth?

Antanas Sutkus was born in Kluoniškiai on 27 June 1939. He studied journalism at Vilnius University in the late 50s before becoming disillusioned with the confines of the Soviet-controlled press. Instead, he took up photography and soon co-founded the Lithuanian Association of Fine Art Photographers”.

The Sutkus People of Lithuania series is considered one of his most important works. The most famous photos of him belong to the ongoing project to document the changing life and people of Lithuania. Working at a time when Lithuania (as the Lithuanian SSR) was part of the Soviet Union, Sutkus focused on black-and-white portraits of ordinary people in their daily lives rather than the models of citizens and workers promoted by Soviet propaganda. Sutkus had the opportunity to spend time with Jean-Paul Sartre and Simone de Beauvoir in 1965 when they visited Lithuania.

Investment value: He has a market mainly in Northern Europe, in Italy his photographs are often unsold. For collecting, however, it would be worth considering, also considering the estimates that range from 100 to a few thousand euros. ⭐️⭐️⭐️
