Andy Warhol and Jackson Pollock in Rome

Andy Warhol - Pittsburgh, August 6, 1928 - e Jackson Pollock – Cody, Wyoming, January 28, 1912 – will be on display in Rome, at the Ala Brasini of the Complesso del Vittoriano, the first from October 3, 2018 to February 3, 2019, the second from October 10, 2018 to February 24, 2019.

Pop art and abstract expressionism have made the history of American traditional art, both developing after the end of the Second World War. Abstract Expressionism elaborates an emphasis on particularly flat surfaces and exalts an all-out approach, in which every area of the canvas is treated equally energetically. As the first original school of painting in America, Abstract Expressionism demonstrated the country's vitality and creativity in the postwar years, as well as its need to develop an aesthetic sense that was not restricted by typically European standards of beauty.

Pop Art, on the other hand, is a movement born between Europe and America during the 20s and XNUMXs. The choice of the term is very precise and clarifying: the artists intend to speak a language that everyone knows, that of the mass media, advertising, television and cinema, the language of images characteristic of the consumer society, making use of retouched photographs, collages and assemblages, plaster sculptures and even theatrical gestures to reveal the lights and shadows of recent well-being and denounce man's bewilderment in the face of a civilization that imposes ever new desires and increasingly amplified dreams.

The exhibition dedicated to the myth of Warhol is organized on the occasion of the ninetieth anniversary of his birth. The exhibition, with its over 170 works, narrates the incredible life of a character who has forever changed the connotations not only of the world of art but also of music, cinema and fashion, tracing a new and original path that radically overturned any previous aesthetic definition.

The Ala Brasini will host the most precious pieces from the collection of the Whitney Museum in New York including, in addition to those by Jackson Pollock, those by Mark Rothko, Willem de Kooning, Franz Kline and many other representatives of the New York School who will enter in the eternal city with all the energy and breaking character that made them eternal and unforgettable "Irascibili". The exhibition is produced and organized by the Arthemisia Group.
