Andrea De Gennaro is the new Commander of the Guardia di Finanza: ok from the CDM, that's who he is

Army Corps General Andrew DeGennaro is the new Commanding General of the Finance Guard. This was decided by the council of ministers which, together with the decree containing the first aid for flooded Emilia-Romagna, gave the green light to the appointment of De Gennaro to the top of the Guardia di Finanza. The Ok had been in the air since last week, when after weeks of tensions the Government had finally managed to find a balance, but had not proceeded with the formalization due to the absence of Economy Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti, engaged in the G7 in Japan .

His appointment was wanted directly by the Premier, Giorgia Meloni, managed to overcome the resistance of ministers Giorgetti (Economy) and Crosetto (Defence).

Who is Andrea De Gennaro

Sixty-four years old, brother of Gianni, former police chief and former delegate undersecretary in the Monti government, De Gennaro wears the 46 year old uniform and since 2004 he has been at the General Command of the Guardia di Finanza. In previous years he held operational positions throughout the country: at the central tax police nucleus of Rome, at the head of the provincial command of Bergamo and of the regional tax police nucleus of Florence.

In 2011, De Gennaro was nominated central director of anti-drug services (DCSA), the joint body of the Interior Ministry. We owe him the arrest, which took place in Colombia in 2013, of the drug trafficker Roberto Pannunzi, referent of the cartels for the sale of cocaine to the 'Ndrangheta.

In 2014 De Gennaro returned to the Guardia Di Finanza as regional commander of Tuscany, to then become interregional commander of southern Italy, commander of the special units and interregional commander of central Italy. On November 15, 2022, he became second in command of General Giuseppe Zafarana.

Chiara Colosimo new president of the Anti-Mafia Commission

But De Gennaro's is not the only nomination arrived today. On the day of the 31st anniversary of the Capaci massacre, the deputy of the Brothers of Italy Clare Colosimo was elected president of the Anti-Mafia Commission, met this morning on the fifth floor of Palazzo San Macuto.

Colosimo was elected with 29 votes, those of the majority. Four preferences went to Dafne Musolino of the Autonomie group and there was also one abstention. The votes of the center-right alone on paper were 30 but one of them is considered absent.

I Vice-Presidents of the Anti-Mafia commission are Mauro D'Attis (Fi) and Federico Cafiero de Raho (M5s). The first was elected with 29 votes, the second with 13. There were then 4 blank ballots and one void.

Before the vote the opposition MPs left the chamber, in protest after the center-right decided to support its candidate on which Pd, M5s and avs had expressed their opposition.

A few days ago, Colosimo ended up at the center of controversy after a report service, which indicated it as close to Luigi Ciavardini, the former black extremist of the Nar sentenced to 30 years for the Bologna massacre, 13 for the murder of the policeman Francesco Evangelista and 10 for that of the judge Mario Amato.

"I have no friends. I simply carried out, in my functions as regional councilor, what was granted to me and which was also due and that is also to meet people who have been or are detained - Colosimo said after the appointment - I know the alleged Ciavardini, exactly as many other elected officials of other political affiliations know him, since he is in an association that deals, as per article 27 of the Constitution, with the reintegration of other prisoners when they have served their sentences”.
