Another record for Basquiat: 111.514.282 euros

Excellent result for Phillips for the 131.564.750th century and contemporary art auction which realized a total of $111.514.282 equal to €91, selling 84% by lot and 155.566.425% by value, bringing the total combined sale for the week at $131.865.302 or €27.500. The latter part of the evening also featured works by Maurizio Cattelan, which raised $XNUMX to directly benefit the Brooklyn Museum.

Leading the auction was opera Flexible of 1984 of Jean-Michel Basquiat, which was sold for $45.315.000 after a three-minute rush to the award. This was the first time the work had been offered for sale, having been delivered directly from the estate of Jean-Michel Basquiat. Eight and a half feet tall, it is the most valuable and largest work ever offered by the artist's estate. Proceeds from the sale will go towards the estate's mission of promoting Basquiat's artistic and cultural legacy.
