Even lobbying goes digital: a book explains how

Rethinking the traditional activities of interest representation in the light of digital tools. This is the aim of the book “Digital Lobbying. Strategically manage institutional relations through smart data and digital tools”, written by Marialessandra Carro, psychologist and partner of ADL Consulting, and Claudio Di Mario, CEO of ADL Consulting, now available both in bookstores and online stores (Carocci publisher). The work of the two experts therefore consists in promoting research and a public debate on the relationship between lobbying and the world of innovation, both in Italy and abroad. In fact, even the "old" activity of the lobbies deserves to be updated and keep up with the times: the suggested approach involves a method divided into six phases, namely monitoring, analysis, strategic evaluations, positioning, action, evaluation of results.

“Integrating digital tools – explains Marialessandra Carro in her presentation – in a knowledge management platform (we did it in our KMIND extension), allows you to overcome information overload and transform big data into smart data". The digital lobbying in short, it represents the opportunity for public affairs professionals to take lobbying and advocacy actions to a more advanced level, in a "data-based" logic and on the analysis of large, strategic and measurable numbers. What are the assets that support this new way of making complex decisions? The book mentions Artificial intelligence, open data, sentiment analysis, analytics tools applied to social networks. "This volume is the result of many years of field work, carried out also thanks to the contribution of colleagues and customers who have allowed us to refine our model, both on a theoretical and practical level", concludes Di Mario .

The book is opened by preface by Alberto Bitonti, who is Professor of Politics at IES Abroad Rome, professor of Political Theory and Political Communication at the Università della Svizzera italiana in Lugano and of Methodology of social sciences at LUISS Guido Carli in Rome. Bitonti has been dealing with for years promote research and quality public debate on lobbying and innovation, in Italy and abroad. As for ADL Consulting (ADL stands for Advocacy digital lobbying), the company was founded in 2012, is based in Rome and also deals with institutional communication.
