Italian Embassy in Tripoli: "Leave Libya immediately"

THEItalian Embassy in Libya gave indication to the compatriots "to leave the country temporarily" for security reasons. This was reported by the Farnesina after the jihadists of the Libyan branch of the Stato islamico (Is) have formally taken control of Sirte, 500 kilometers east of Tripoli.

A group of Islamic State affiliates has taken control of Radio Sirte, a radio station in the coastal city of the same name. The confirmation comes from some internet sites close to the jihadists on which photos have been published showing guerrillas armed with Kalashnikovs in studios.

From that moment on, the broadcaster began broadcasting statements from the formation's spokesman, Abu Mohammed al-Adnani. At this point it is thought that in the next few hours the city could be declared part of the "Caliphate" and the radio used to communicate the new rules to the population. A fate already befallen the city of Derna.

Meanwhile, the Foreign Ministry has decided to temporarily close the Italian Embassy in Sana'a, Yemen, due to the progressive worsening of the security conditions. Ambassador Galli and all the staff are returning to Italy in these hours. The Farnesina specified that the decision was taken in the framework of international coordination which led several countries to close their embassies.
