Amazon challenges Apple and launches the Kindle Fire: it costs less than half the rival and comes out in November

Is called Kindle Fire and was launched by Amazon: the long-awaited rival tablet of Apple's iPad has arrived. A gauntlet launched with the best intentions, starting with the absolutely competitive price: only 199 euro, against the 499 of the Apple model. That is, less than half.

The new Kindle, presented by the CEO Jeff Bezos, will be available on the market from 15th November, but pre-sales start today. The tablet uses a modified version of Android, the operating system produced by Google, has a 17,78 cm color screen (smaller than the 24,6 cm iPad) and will be equipped with a wi-fi connection.

Also Kindle Fire has a dual-core processor, which gives the possibility to store data remotely in the Amazon Cloud; has access to the Amazon App Store and allows you to view and listen to streaming, with access to a archive of 11 films and TV programs and 17 songs.

Amazon also presented kindle touch, a touch screen e-reader with a black-and-white screen (costs $99 for the version with wi-fi connection and $149 for the one with 3G connection; both will be shipped starting November 21).
