Amazon, general strike on March 22: the whole supply chain stops

Uno general strike of 24 hours which will involve the entire supply chain Amazon Italy. The trade unions proclaimed it for the next 22 March after the breakdown of the negotiation with the company on the second-level bargaining platform of the Amazon supply chain. This is the first national strike affecting the entire Amazon supply chain. Previously there had in fact been only local or sectoral protests.

The negotiations, explain Filt Cgl, Fit Cisl, Uiltrasporti and Assoespressi, were interrupted "abruptly due to theunavailability of the employer association to positively address the issues posed by the union, including the verification of the shifts, loads and work rhythms imposed, the reduction of the working hours of the drivers, the social clause and employment continuity for all in the event of a contract change or change of supplier, the stabilization of fixed times and temporary workers and compliance with health and safety regulations". The object of the dispute is also a particular one covid allowance, requested by the unions given that the activity in the presence has never stopped and indeed has grown considerably during the pandemic.

In detail, the strike will affect working employees in warehouses and hubs to which the national Logistics contract is applied, up to delivery workers and to workers of contracted supply companies for logistics, handling and distribution of goods in the Amazon supply chain in Italy.

The unions use harsh words and also speak of "Amazon's inaction on the delivery table" also denouncing "the absence of responses from the American multinational in relation to the continuation of the confrontation, which began in January, relating to employees and those who work in the procurement of logistics services"

Finally, according to Filt Cgil, Fit Cisl and Uiltrasporti, “with his unacceptable absconding behavior, Amazon manifests the chronic unavailability to a confrontation with the workers' representatives in defiance of the rules and protections provided by the Logistics, Goods Transport and Shipping national labor contract and a system of correct trade union relations ".

Ready Amazon Italy's reply: “What the union declared regarding the lack of confrontation is not true, so much so that two meetings were held in January. Regarding the meeting held yesterday with Assoespressi, we would like to underline that for deliveries to customers, Amazon Logistics makes use of third party suppliers. Therefore we believe that the correct interlocutors are the delivery service providers, as well as the trade associations that represent them."
