Amazon, no more books at very discounted prices: new law sets a ceiling on the reductions

Stop the mega discounts of Amazon.it. The Senate dismisses the proposal made by Riccardo Franco Levi, of the Democratic Party, and also signed by MPs from other groups, with which a 15% ceiling is imposed on the price reductions practiced by booksellers. The promoter of the initiative explains that it is a measure long awaited by the sector, which "protects the work and role of booksellers and publishers, guarantees pluralism and the richness of the cultural offer, defends the power of consumer purchase". On special occasions, some exceptions to the breakthrough of the roof will be possible, but in no case greater than 25%.

The sale price will be - as the text of the law provides - "freely set by the publishers". According to Levi, this will help to bring the sector out of the "far west" in which it finds itself. From 1 September therefore, goodbye reductions of up to 40%, as foreseen in certain offers made by the telematic giant Amazon. An applause for the legislation comes from the association of publishers and booksellers.
